The Monticello Cross Country team had a strong performance at Panorama Farms. Three individuals set school records and others put together fantastic races. Junior Bazil Mathes got first place overall with an incredible time of 15:34, breaking his 5k school record! Freshman Ryan Davidson got fourth overall in the girls' race, also setting a school record with a time of 19:02! Creighton Doherty shattered his freshman boys record from earlier in the year with a time of 17:58. The boy's team finished fourth behind some good schools. "The team mindset is to win, as we have a real possibility of winning states," junior Daniel Vizcaino says. Vizcaino had the second-best time for the boy's team, finishing 22nd overall with a time of 17:28. Senior Ben Davis was right with Vizcaino, finishing one second behind him. Davis had a monster race, dropping a whole minute and a half from his best 5k time. Hope McCullough had a great race and finished 12th overall with a time of 20:12. Max Scharer and Owen Sexton weren't far behind Doherty, getting times of 18:18 and 18:35.
The personal records by Monticello runners were impressive, considering Panorama is not a flat course, consisting of multiple hills to plow up. Monticello didn't slow down, as they shattered records, and the team will gain even more confidence going forward. This is a dangerous team moving into the playoffs.
