After a 78-39 win on Tuesday night, we were all left with an important question: GOOCHLANDUH, WHAT HAPPENED?

Stars of the Game

  • Jayby Pour: 14 points, 4 steals

  • Ben Ritterband: 13 points, 5 rebounds

  • Jacob Messinger: 12 points, 3 steals

  • Ben Giese: 12 points

  • Josh Walker: 9 points, 6 rebounds

  • Aaron Morgan: 6 points, 1 block

First Half

The Mustangs got out of the gate hot, led by a few early buckets by star guard Ben Ritterband. MHS utilized a solid full court press, causing insurmountable problems for the Goochland offense. Near the end of the half, guard Ben Giese splashed a 3, then added a heat check with a four point play. Lockdown defender Aaron Morgan followed up with a Dikembe Mutombo-esque rejection at the rim. Monticello took a commanding 40-18 halftime lead.

Second Half

The second half turned into the Jayby Pour Show. Pour had a game high 14 points, highlighted by a steal into a sweet spin move for a layup bringing the crowd on their feet. Big man Jacob Messinger gave MHS a boost with 12 points; 2 of them showcasing elite ball handling skills on a fast break layup. Nearing the curtain call, guard John Pannone and forward Henry Harlow delivered buckets to cap off a one-sided victory.

Led by 4 players in double figures, Monticello collected their second win in blowout fashion. They will have to use that momentum going into a Friday night showdown against rival Western Albemarle.
